Peter Lilley (c1563-11 February 1614-5) was appointed as headmaster of Boston Grammar School on 13 October 1585, aged 22. In 1588 he was dismissed, and it was agreed that he "shalbe allowed £3 for his quarters wages althoughe he hathe bene absent and done noe service for the same, and to be discharged of the Scholemastershipp because he dothe not attend upon the teachinge of the schollers." Before Boston Grammar School
Lilley was born at Canterbury, where his father, Peter, was a prebendary of the cathedral. His mother was Jane Burgh, probably of Burgh Hall, Torkshire.
Lilley matriculated at Jesus College, Cambridge at Michaelmas 1579, BA 1582-3, ME 1587, BD 1595, DD 1608.
After Boston Grammar School
He was ordained deacon in London on 21 December 1588, two months after being dismissed from Boston Grammar School, and priest on 24 November 1590. As a priest he collected a number of church offices including:
- rector of St Nicholas Olave, London 1599-1615
- vicar of Fulham
- prebendary of St Paul's
- prebendary of Sarum from 1605
- rector of Hornsey, Middlesex from 1610
- archdeacon of Taunton c1614-1615
Lilley died on 11 February 1614-5.He was buried in the Savoy Hospital Chapel, of which he was a brother.
