Edward Robert "Ted" Sylvester was educated at Boston Grammar School.

Ted was born in Fishtoft and apart from his National Service had lived in the Boston area until November 2006 when he moved to Saffron Walden, Essex.

A former grammar school pupil, he was employed as an architectural technician, starting work for Holland County Council in 1950. After two years' National Service in the RAF he returned to Holland County Council, then moved to Tomlinson and Partners in 1958 where he became an associate. The firm merged with Meldrum Lee and Gillatt, and he retired through ill health in November 1993.

He was a member of the British Institute of Architectural Technicians and served on its governing council and exam board. He served on Boston Borough Council from 1963 to 1974, and was one of the last aldermen.

Ted was a trustee of the Boston Preservation Trust, a founder member of its Civic Group and a member of its Transport sub-group which campaigned for a Boston bypass. He was director of the Boston Amateur Sports Association and represented Boston and Grantham on the East Midlands Sports Council. He was a founder member, and chairman for seven years, of the Pilgrim Heart Support Group, as well as a member of Holy Trinity Church, Boston[1]. He served on its PCC and as churchwarden represented the church on Deanery and Diocesan Synods. He was also a founder member of the Bishop's Council and Board of Patronage.

He enjoyed cricket and rowing when younger, and fly-fishing, bowling, painting and gardening.
