Tom Redman died on 23 December 1999 at the Marie Curie Hospice, Newcastle upon Tyne. Tom was born in Boston and attended Boston Grammar School from 1943 to 1949. In his youth he was a member of the 5th Boston Scout Troop and later Boston Rowing Club and Boston Swimming Club. He was a keen photographer and often worked with Gus Smalley.
During his National Service in the Royal Air Force, Tom served as a Dental Technician. He married Joan Richmond from Pateley Bridge in Yorkshire, who came to Boston as a Domestic Science Teacher. They moved to London, when Tom’s job at Boston Haulage made it necessary.
Later they moved to Milton Malsor, just outside Northampton, and Tom worked for British Timken and other engineering firms. During his time there he represented Northamptonshire at rifle shooting.
He retired to Amble in 1995 and developed an interest in deep-sea fishing.
Tom was cremated at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 29”’ December and he leaves his widow, Joan, daughters Julie and Janet, son Tony and three grandchildren. His sister, Mrs Doreen Raisen lives in London Road, Boston.
