Brian Bolland – A Comic Book Journey from School Halls to Iconic Artwork
Brian grew up in Butterwick and attended the local primary school before moving to Conway School in Boston and then on to The Giles School before arriving at BGS to study art at A-Level. It was here that his artistic talent truly flourished. Finding inspiration under the guidance of art teacher John “Banger” Grimble, Bolland even showed his talent outside the classroom, producing fantastic comic artwork for two issues of The Bostonian magazine.
This artistic spark ignited a passion that propelled him onto the international stage. Following his studies, Bolland’s talent found a home in the world of comic books. He became a driving force behind the “British Invasion” of the American comics industry, leaving an indelible mark on pop culture.
From the dystopian streets of Judge Dredd to the iconic heroes of Superman, Green Lantern, and Batman (including the critically acclaimed “The Killing Joke” story-line), Bolland’s artwork has captivated readers worldwide. His journey, a testament to dedication and artistic vision, serves as an inspiration to aspiring creators everywhere.
Join us at the OBA dinner and hear Brian Bolland share his remarkable story

The school will be open for former pupils and staff, together with their guests, to tour on the afternoon of dinner day.
