Guided town walking tour with Jane Keightley
This is a fantastic opportunity to be guided by Boston’s own tour guide, Jane Keightley of Boston History Tours, around some of the locations in Boston that are closely linked with the history of Boston Grammar School.
Jane is a tour guide who is passionate about the historic town of Boston. She loves to share the story of its glorious past including its significant growth in the medieval period and its important role in the story of North America. Between the beginning of April and the end of September Jane offers regular walking tours of Boston. She has agreed to design a special tour for us and to run it outside her usual season.
The tour is likely to incorporate some of the stops from Jane’s regular tours as well as locations specifically selected to allow you to learn about the history of Boston Grammar School and people associated with it.
The first opportunity to join this town tour with Jane Keightley is on the day of The Old Bostonian Association 125th Anniversary Dinner: Saturday 8th March 2025. The tour will start at 10:30am from the Rowley Road entrance to Boston Grammar School and will continue with a short refreshment break until around 1:30pm or 2:00pm, returning to the same point. This should give you time, if you wish, to also take advantage of the school open afternoon for which last entry is 2:30pm. The tour and the school visit are both offered to you free of charge by the Old Bostonian Association.
Subject to there being sufficient interest, the town tour may also be run at the same time on Sunday 9th March 2025. Note that the school will not be open for visits on the Sunday.
School visit
Separately from the walking tour of Boston, we will be opening the doors of the school on 8th March (dinner day) between 1pm and 3pm (last entry 2:30pm) for people who want to see some of their old haunts and how the place has changed since they left. There will be members of staff, old boys and current sixth formers on hand to show you round.
